Zakariyya Ahmad is a renowned Egyptian composer and pianist who was born on August 25, 1896 and died on December 14, 1961. He is considered one of the pioneers of modern Arabic music. Ahmad studied music under great Egyptian musicians such as Sayed Darwish and Mohamed El Qasabgi. He composed more than 200 songs and several operettas and films. His most popular compositions include "Layla Murad", "Helwa Ya Baladi", and "Ya Masr". Ahmad was also a talented pianist and gave many performances throughout his career. He was awarded the Nile Necklace, Egypt's highest honor, for his contributions to the arts.
